Welcome to Beeville!

The beautiful South Texas town of Beeville has a way of charming a person. This could be because of the historic brick storefronts that line the main street of downtown, the array of shops that delightfully display one of a kind gifts, the antique shops that boasts treasures of yesteryear or maybe it’s the people you meet in Beeville that greet you like long lost friends.

Beeville is the gateway to South Texas Brush Country. Its rural setting makes it a prime location for bird watching, wildlife photography, and hunting.  Beeville enjoys the great outdoors through the nine community parks with playgrounds, golfing, walking trails, skate park, municipal pool, and the green fields for football, baseball, and soccer. Annual events showcase our cultural diversity such as Western Week Celebration, Spring Fest, Diez y Seis Festival, and Bee County Junior Livestock and Homemakers Show. Beeville was once home for the Naval Air Station Training Center, Chase Field. Beeville’s military pride can be seen in the eleven memorials throughout the city.

The Beeville Main Street program was awarded as an accredited National Main Street and Texas Main Street City since 2016.  We were the first city in Texas to become an affiliate of Bee City USA. Bee City USA program endorses a set of commitments for creating and preserving sustainable pollinator habitats. Coastal Bend College is a Bee Campus under Bee City USA as well. I know you are thinking that Beeville was named after those beloved pollinators, but the answer is no. Beeville and Bee County is named after Barnard E. Bee, Sr. who had served as Secretary of State and Secretary of War for the Republic of Texas. Come to Beeville to enjoy the fruits of beekeeping… the local honey.

Beeville conveys culture, heritage, and education through the state-of-the-art Joe Barnhart Bee County Library; see the exhibits from artists across Texas at the Beeville Art Museum; and the legacy of Dr. Barnhart through the Joe Barnhart Scholarship Foundation. Beeville has a large place in history from entertaining President Bush on hunting trips to having a famous sculptor best known for his work completing Mount Rushmore Monument as one of our former City Councilmen. The Bee County Historical Commission, the McClanahan House, the Hall Rialto Foundation, and the Berclair Mansion help preserve moments in time. The community college, Coastal Bend College, started its main campus in Beeville in 1967 as Bee County College and since then serves a district over 9,000 square miles in four campuses.

Beeville has evolved into a regional retail, entertainment, hotel, and restaurant hub for surrounding communities. Beeville is centrally located between San Antonio and Corpus Christi and from Houston to Laredo at the crossroads of US 59 and 181, near US 37. The town hosts a variety of unique shops and businesses. Sip hot tea at the Box of Chocolates. Shop for perfect unique gifts or that one of kind outfit at the Wicker Basket, Fashion Crush, or Triple VVV. Stop by Hattie & Hazels for their extraordinary meals, taste the flavor of South Texas at the Bomb BBQ and then visit Coastal Bend Distilling for locally crafted spirits to quench your thirst.

Beeville’s plentiful wildlife, quaint gifts downtown, and South Texas hospitality make it a place to stop and stay a while. Come and “bee” yourself in Beeville; we are your hometown.
